Nearly 30,000 years into the future, humanity has colonized the planet of Rubi-Ka. The unique resource of Notum was discovered on the planet, and the Interstellar Confederation of Corporations (ICC) leased exporting rights of Notum to the hyper-corporation Omni-Tek. Poor conditions in the Notum mines lead to workers rebelling and forming the Clans. Brutal wars broke out across Rubi-Ka between Omni-Tek and the Clans, but many also stayed neutral in the conflict.
Notum is used in cloning, granting near immortality, and powerful nanotechnology. Genetically engineered breeds, like the muscular Atrox, agile Opifex and intelligent Nano Mages have been developed on Rubi-Ka. The wonderous dimension of the Shadowlands was discovered in the neutral city of Jobe, and scientists managed to open a portal to the new realm. This discovery not only offered vast new lands to explore, but also alerted a powerful alien race and lead to their invasion of Rubi-Ka.
